Being Single

The single guy is such a demeaning proposition. Unless someone has a “Single now” status a single status especially for a guy is such a troubling state of being. Single as a relationship status means a guy who is currently not involved with anyone from the opposite or his own sex. It pretty much means the same to a girl and the argument may not be largely different but let us concentrate on the trauma of the guy here. Generally guys do not seek a single status. Everybody is born with this status and depending on the age at which the guy becomes cognizant of this fact that he is actually relationshipless he starts bracing up to move away from this status. But here is the trouble. The “what” of the trouble is known, the “why of the issue is also pretty much understood but the “how” of the trouble is a perplexing one because there is not one technique that leads to a relationship. Let’s examine the very natural way of getting into a relationship, love. This is probably defined as the firs...

The Whys of today and Gaps of yesterday

Yesterday we finished celebrating my dad's Sashtipoorthi. In other words it is the 60th b'day of my father according to the hindu calendar. it becomes significant because the cycle of life is said to have beome complete when a person touches the 60 year mark as he has gone through all stages of life such as bramhacharya, grihastha etc. So it is a commemorate achievement for the individual and I found out that not everybody gets the honor of a celebration of this stature. It is typical of a social gathering where your near and dear, your loved and not so loved ones gather under one roof for about 2 to 3 days and attend numerous pujas and abhishekams amongst continual chanting of the vedas. The event is not short of a wedding and hence it is also called the 60th marriage. These are events that assert our rich tradition, its roots and like some people rave about, our "culture". I am supposed to have co-hosted the event along with my younger brother and got showere...

IPL II – Too Fast Too furious

This can be the best tag line of the second season of the Indian Premier League. The league promises to be an absolute cracker with more teams eyeing the top 4 spots this time round. It is exciting to watch every match where all odds go for a toss and the team standing 6 in the table suddenly jumps to No. 4 by virtue of winning one match. Barring one team every team has come up with a better performance making the league a spectacle where each match whether you are playing it or not becomes important for the teams. Now, my “expert opinions” on the teams. Kolkata Knight Riders: I don’t care if the name was changed. They are still very much Bengali. The trouble is that the coach and his entire fanfare of associate staff don’t seem to realize this. They are a fantastic team on paper ripped apart by politics, overindulgence of the franchise owner and a complete clueless approach to Cricket. The team seems to be struggling on all fronts. The stars with the form, some senior players with...
