Have you been a victim of attraction?

Have you been a victim of attraction? It is so tempting that even if u are made of steel, u’ve got to sway. It’s irresistible. It is seductive. It keeps luring you away. Attraction is usually for something, for example you are attracted to a particular object or person. Attainment of the same isn’t half as fulfilling as what attraction does to us. That’s why Hope is such a wonderful thing. It keeps us in a dream land of belief that someday things will change. The concept of some day is so fantastic that it, in most cases, will lead you to inaction. The “some day” has to be created by you. Hoping is just the odor. The actual thing is the source of the sweetness. Odor just has a marijuana effect, hence fighting it is tremendously difficult. You need guts to overcome the lure of attraction. It is fancy to dream big but if you don’t know your route to achievement then your dream is just a movie that has flown you away one minute and crash lands you the next. But attraction in itself isn’...

Wish I could go back in time…

Saturdays are particularly difficult days to work. But you got to do it. So I set out today as usual. On my way to work I saw a girl and a guy chatting away to glory on the roadside. Nothing spectacular but I had a smile on my face because it had brought a lot of memories from my college days back. How many times have we wondered, if only I could bring back the days of the past? I am constantly reminded of this song by Travis in his album Ode to J. Smith whose lyrics read like this In the days before we were young We used to sit in the morning sun We used to turn the radio on What happened? We yearn for the bygones. Lots of us have this feeling that those days when we were younger, more innocent and more ignorant were much better. Given a chance we would love to go back and live that life. We would love to go back and not only live those times but also in a much better way because now we know the value of that fleeting moment. We now know what all we could have done. May be t...

The Woman

The woman is a collection of ironies. My observation is that an average woman is subject to a deep conflict, always. It is whether to be the person I am or to be the person that I am expected to be. A male on the other hand usually starts assuming more responsibility after an age and hence experiences individuality. At that very same age a woman shifts base from a place where she has spent 25 years of her life to a totally new place with totally new people. The comfort of familiarity no longer exists. It’s like Chapter 2 with a totally new cast. I am reading a book called “It rained all night” by a well known Bengali literate Buddhadeva Bose. It reveals several such sensitivities and how a woman has a lot to endure and how taxing this can be on her psyche. We live in different times. Women have shed their conservativeness and fought their way up to a place where their deserved equal rights can be enjoyed. Their individuality has found voice and we see many a remarkable woman today. Tho...

Women's day

This day marks the true tribute to one deserved half of the world. Yes, I do know there exists a third variety of the sexes. But innately they either feel like a woman or man. So my statement is justified. This day is a truly remarkable day. I have a special affiliation to it as you would see as I spell it out. Our office had a small celebration today for Women’s day. Celebrations such as these if celebrated at our homes or clubs are called occasions and in a corporate set they are called engagement activities. I seriously don’t know how people get engaged especially when they get pulled out of work to hear some clichéd words and eat some cake and samosa and effectively ruin 30 mins of the day. Without digressing much (you have no idea how much I would love to go on and on………. on this) let me bring you back to our inglorious (sorry Quentin) women’s day celebrations. Did I mention clichés before? So they go like this, one employee asks the other “how come there isn’t a Man’s day or Men’...
