The employee transfer market

Taking a cue from the football leagues transfer market, why can’t we have an employee transfer market for comparable businesses? Today an employee quits from one firm and joins the other. The parent company doesn’t benefit at all from this transaction. The maximum it does make is the notice period buyout which isn’t commensurate with the value in terms of currency the exiting employee can potentially create in a new firm. The exiting employee can make a fair bounty at the new place of work but the parent company is only at a loss.

Attrition is a huge problem in today’s world. Companies struggle especially with the loss of their A+ rated talent. Instead of fighting this talent exit war in a futile manner why not benefit from it? If you have a Ronaldo in your team shouldn’t your company earn 80 million pounds? Why don’t you make some money out of your attrition?

There are a lot of details that need to be worked out here. Ronaldo has Jorge Mendes as an agent and so does most of the expensive names in football and he decides the market. That may not be the case with employees considering the sheer number in all industries. Then there is the legal angle. It might just change the way we look at recruitment in the future. But if we do consider some hot skills some companies do exceedingly well in making stars and lose them to companies that can pay better. It is time these companies benefited.

This is food for thought!

Being Single

The single guy is such a demeaning proposition. Unless someone has a “Single now” status a single status especially for a guy is such a troubling state of being. Single as a relationship status means a guy who is currently not involved with anyone from the opposite or his own sex. It pretty much means the same to a girl and the argument may not be largely different but let us concentrate on the trauma of the guy here. Generally guys do not seek a single status. Everybody is born with this status and depending on the age at which the guy becomes cognizant of this fact that he is actually relationshipless he starts bracing up to move away from this status. But here is the trouble. The “what” of the trouble is known, the “why of the issue is also pretty much understood but the “how” of the trouble is a perplexing one because there is not one technique that leads to a relationship. Let’s examine the very natural way of getting into a relationship, love. This is probably defined as the firs...

The Dream

It is important to dream big to achieve something big. I heard this line in a recent interview of Sachin Tendulkar. There is so much power in this statement. That particular dream gave him all the will power to become the most respected sports icon of the country. It’s the dream, a vision that fosters us with a certain scene and people like Sachin dedicate their lives to see that moment become a reality. If you are wondering why am I boring you with such an obvious testimony of a personality that every second Indian adulates, then things are just about to get interesting. I am writing to this to address a certain set of people who don’t have a dream, a la me. I don’t want to be the VP of my Co. 30 yrs down the line. Infact I don’t want to be the VP of any company. I don’t believe in what I am doing. Hence I don’t know what I want. I don’t have any vision of what my future should be like. I don’t aspire to be any one. I would love to see myself being interviewed on TV. But in that progr...
