What can Chelsea do

Chelsea have been awful this season and I’ve read quite a few blogs and reports on the problems of Chelsea. But what can be the way out of this hole? Does the manager have to go? It is quite clear that Chelsea aren’t going to retain the title and by the current look of things a top 4 slot seems pretty elusive. It is often said in Cricket that a spectacular catch or a run out can turn things around in a match. What Chelsea need is a personality that can provide a spectacular catch. Mourinho is claimed to be a tactical genius but currently his genius is failing match after match. He has probably pulled out every play from his book and that has fallen short.
Hence, this is what I think he can do. I am no tactical genius. My only qualification is being an avid lover of Chelsea football club. But I sense a certain stubbornness to Mourinho’s methods which needs a relook. Let’s see what can be done

Diego Costa – A crowd favorite who is woefully short on goals right now. What’s more disheartening is his attempts on goal. We no longer see a striker who can spot a space and take a shot first time. For me, he has to go. Chelsea is hunting for a target man in January. Then the message is clear that he isn’t doing enough. Loic Remy cant be worse than Costa. He has to get an extended run. He may not have the ability to produce magic like Costa but he is still a good technically sound striker and he deserves a run, especially now.

4-3-2-1 – Chelsea have a problem and that is leaking goals. They have conceded far too many goals this season and clearly the formation is to be questioned. There is a need to strengthen defense and clearly Ramires and Matic need help. You need to slot one more player in the holding place. Put a Mikel alongside the regulars. We will atleast be stopping the attacks coming through. The fall backs also need help on both sides and it can assist the counter attacking football that Mourinho believes in. Ramires can always step on the gas when he can and his goal scoring form has been pretty good. He needs to get to a place where he can take the odd shot. Chelsea are already playing narrow because Costa has his limitations with the ball in the air. This system might just work whatever be the opposition.

The Spark! – Arguably the spark this season has been Willian. But Willian has been great with the dead ball situation. Open play has been the biggest problem for Mourinho. Not enough has been done, the ball has not been retained, the movement has been very slow, players are unsure where their teammates are and that decisive pass hasn’t come. I read an article where Mourinho was urged to start someone like Kenedy. I agree with that completely. He hasn’t got the flair of some of the established players. But he has pace and he has the ability to run up and down the pitch. He can definitely be the spark. He just needs to be there to draw a couple of players from the opposition onto him. That can give someone like Hazard or Fabregas some space to breathe. They seem to be on the slow path back to form. One goal for each of them can be a huge boost this season.

The Transfer window – Chelsea want to buy Chicha Rito apparently. That for me is a great buy. United should have never let him go. Chelsea couldn’t latch on to Stones. Chelsea need one more defender. He should preferably play left back and centre back. I don’t see Ivanovic making a comeback. Chelsea should be looking at making some money with his sale and not really look at a comeback for him. My bet is on a defender who has premier league experience. Chelsea have been fairly OK in Europe. They are still able to win given their average play. The tougher opponents will be met later. Having said that the premier league is the priority and someone with that kind of ability is the need of the hour. If Zouma can play on the left then Stones has to be bought and slotted in alongside Cahill.

With this the hope still is that players like Hazard and Fabregas step up. Oscar somehow feels like a player who is clearly seeking fortunes outside the club. Don’t seem him sticking around with a substitute role. We can just hope for the best and keep the blue flag flying high.

The story of the storytellers

Dork: The Incredible Adventures of Robin Einstein Varghese If Chetan Bhagat didn’t do enough to inspire me and confuse me, Sidin Vadukut has just taken it to another level. Let me tell you a little bit about the “CAT” grind. Any averagely informed MBA seeker will realize that there are 6 institutes located in 6 different places of India that abbreviate to 3 letters and one has to master an entrance test, again abbreviated to three letters, to get through the portals of the apex institutes of the management world in India. Once you join a coaching centre it pretty much becomes clear that if the picture of IIM Ahmedabad does not feature next to your beloved family deities then you aren’t really serious about your classes in these institutes which will put you through a psychological toughness that is required to endure 2 hours which will largely constitute inability to answer most questions. Once you come out you feel like shit and feel much better when you see the thousand odd students ...

Why Chelsea?

I’ve often held this grouse against Liverpool and Manchester United’s fans that when you tend to have a discussion with them they bring out the reference of the “glory” days of the clubs. Man U in some respects have continued their supremacy owing to the twin factors of a tenacious manager and some poor performances of their rivals. But Liverpool as long as I have followed the league have been very patchy. They throw in some brilliant unstoppable performances some times and play utterly clueless football at other times. There is no denying the glorious history of the club. They have been the club with the most number of premier league titles and a history that’s etched in stone and full of achievements. If anybody does begin giving me a lesson on the history of football where the club that I follow features very little in, one would still find an ardent listener in me, because ‘we love this game'. But to all those people who have followed the glory days of Arsenal and Liverpool,...

Have you been a victim of attraction?

Have you been a victim of attraction? It is so tempting that even if u are made of steel, u’ve got to sway. It’s irresistible. It is seductive. It keeps luring you away. Attraction is usually for something, for example you are attracted to a particular object or person. Attainment of the same isn’t half as fulfilling as what attraction does to us. That’s why Hope is such a wonderful thing. It keeps us in a dream land of belief that someday things will change. The concept of some day is so fantastic that it, in most cases, will lead you to inaction. The “some day” has to be created by you. Hoping is just the odor. The actual thing is the source of the sweetness. Odor just has a marijuana effect, hence fighting it is tremendously difficult. You need guts to overcome the lure of attraction. It is fancy to dream big but if you don’t know your route to achievement then your dream is just a movie that has flown you away one minute and crash lands you the next. But attraction in itself isn’...
